You need to move to the USA. Incomes are combined for married couples, mortgages are deductible, kids are deductible, giving old clothes is deductible, and the mileage for driving to the Goodwill to give away the clothes is deductible. You do have to deal with right-wing-religious-fanatics in office right now, but who cares, we have guns!

Fiscal conservatism does not exist in Canada right now (except maybe in Alberta). At least we are not running deficits, but I am always curious to know how long it will take to pay off the national DEBT!

--c8j

The conservative party does have some nice ideas like creating Roth IRA-like retirement accounts in Canada (which would be a great savings vehicle for low-income families). The problem I have with them these days is they are not fiscally conservative any more. Take the last budget, which increased spending from $180B to $230B (I think). These guys first supported it saying it is a conservative budget. If this budget was conservative, I'd hate to ever see a liberal budget. But, when the NDP made a deal to add an extra $4B in spending (which is less than 10% of spending increase), these guys called it the "deal with the devil".
