Taxes: City of Ottawa Salaries

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Well, to the City of Ottawa’s credit they publish every year the salaries of employees that work for “The City” that make over $100K as salary (this number is over 300 now). Every year the media in Ottawa has a lot of fun at the expense of these well paid employees, so I figured, why can’t I have some fun too?

Question 1) Who makes more the Mayor or the Police Chief?
Answer: Vince Bevan: $183,578.33 who is the Police Chief, guess that’s fair pay, I don’t want his job.

Question 2) Who makes more, the Mayor or the City Manager?
Answer: Kent Kirkpatrick: $242,881.00 is the City Manager, that pays really well, not sure what the City planner does, but he gets paid a good packet of change.

Question Last 3) Who makes more the Mayor or the Head Librarian?
Answer: The head librarian (don’t have the number)

How much does the poor mayor of Ottawa make?
Mayor Bob Chiarelli $138,465.27

At least I know where my municipal taxes are being spent, not sure I am happy about it, but how can you compare? Guess I need to find out how well these jobs pay in comparable cities. Sounds like some research is ahead. Stay tuned
