There is a great deal of mis-trust of the science community, some of it well earned (e.g. rushing Thalidomide before doing all tests, the Cold Fusion fraud, etc., ) but most of the time science tries to get it right and thanks to science our lives are for the most part better (although however the Internet came about, it is definitely a double edged sword).

Michael Specter talks about the growing danger of science denials.
