Saint David’s Day (Hapus Dydd Gŵyl Dewi)

Saint David always has to take a back seat to his much more raucous brother (in Sainthood) Saint Patrick, but for those with Welsh blood in them (and those that wish they did), we still all proudly celebrate this day with a plate of faggots and mushy peas (look that up in one of your fancy gourmet cookbooks).

Saint David is the patron saint of Wales, but also of Vegetarians, so if you love your lettuce, Saint David is your man!

For those in search of some monetary angle, I give you a nursery rhyme that used to be said to kids about the folks of Wales:

Taffy was a Welshman,
Taffy was a thief;
Taffy came to my house
And stole a piece of beef.

I went to Taffy’s house,
Taffy was not home;
Taffy came to my house
And stole a marrow bone.

I went to Taffy’s house,
Taffy was not in;
Taffy came to my house
And stole a silver pin.

I went to Taffy’s house,
Taffy was in bed;
I took up a poker
And threw it at his head

So if you know a Welshman, hide your marrow bones, because he is a crafty thief too. Don’t you love the old nursery rhymes (back when racism, domestic violence, petty theft, stereotypes and harassment were just other people’s problems).

Kiss a Dragon Today

It is a sadder Saint David’s for me, as my favorite son of Wales is no longer with us (no not Gareth Edwards (and he isn’t dead either)), my Dad passed away a while ago, but I will celebrate this day, none the less.
