Ontario Gov’t and Debt Reduction

The good news is that the Ontario Provincial Government’s DEFICIT (not to be confused with debt) is lower than they thought and it might get lower, which is good to hear. Glad to see a Government able to figure out you shouldn’t spend more money than you bring in.

The bad news is they seem to be doing this off my nickel, which always upsets me. They aren’t contemplating any new tax increases. My guess is because in true Machiavellian fashion they front loaded their term with all the tax jumps they could think of so that once their term is up in a year or two, they can say, “We haven’t raised taxes in 3 years”. The sad part is that there are people who will “buy” that story as well!

The best comment about this came from a Provincial Tory, commenting on the increase in Hydro charges and the new OHIP taxes:

“In fact, consumers today have to fork out about $2,000 more per year than they did before Dalton McGuinty was elected,” said Tory MPP Tim Hudak.

Remember, that is PROVINCIAL taxes, on the Federal side we haven’t had much new, because of the minority government. What a county.
