Temple Grandin

The Ted folks have got a fresh set of very interesting videos. One jumped out at me. A talk by Temple Grandin about how the world needs all kinds of minds to thrive.

Temple Grandin, diagnosed with autism as a child, talks about how her mind works — sharing her ability to “think in pictures,” which helps her solve problems that neurotypical brains might miss. She makes the case that the world needs people on the autism spectrum: visual thinkers, pattern thinkers, verbal thinkers, and all kinds of smart geeky kids.

A very interesting talk. Well worth watching. Yes, it has very little to do with Personal Finance. However, if your child is diagnosed as having a “different mind”, you may be able to get a disability tax credit for them. It is not easy to get the CRA to agree to it, but it is worth trying to get one. Let us celebrate the different mind, and not try to hide it.
