Lenten Financial Challenge Week 1

So far so good for those in the Challenge I hope?

From what I can tell checking out the Anchor Post Lenten Financial Challenge (which you can still comment on and join our community), we have a few folks who have said they are in:

  • Sandy at YesIamCheap who is overpaying AND giving up coffee
  • Joe who I am not sure about whether he was joining or saying he was already doing this stuff
  • Anne who is going to make some overpayments
  • Miss T. from Prairie Eco-Thrifter, who is going to cut out some coffee and over pay too

Yes, it’s a small-ish community, but let’s keep it up OK?

What am I doing? Hey, I only run this thing, but I am in fact planning on overpaying on my Mortgage Payments (which are bi-weekly), and am bringing my lunch to work (oh and I am trying to add Exercise too, but that is not financial). I will also be trying to find some more charitable work that I can do as well.

How you folks doing? Leave a comment (even if it is SFSG (so far so good)). Feel free to retweet this and brag of your accomplishments too.

Oh and if you “slip” don’t worry, it’s a long journey, so get back on the horse and forget about the slips (but don’t keep repeating them either).

  1. I gave up buying coffee and lunches at work more than a year ago, so the easy ones are done already. I thought about overpaying debt, but I already do that on a regular basis as well. I must be a financial saint. 😉

So, in the end, I have decided to give up all non-essential shopping. I’ll still be buying groceries and such, but no toys for me, no new clothes etc.

As usual when I give something up, the temptations start to creep in and I’ve already got a wish list a mile long. 😉

    1. Yes, the whole “Sunday is a Holiday” concept that my Church subscribes to, doesn’t really work in this challenge, but the fun part of the challenge is fighting your temptations, and showing you are Master of Your Domain!
