Random Thoughts: Spring has Sprung

Allergies Ahoy!

Spring is here, for those with seasonal allergies, all the joys of watery eyes, sneezing and itching have arrived as well. A fairly quiet week in terms of money, other than the Gasoline Price explosion, which has almost doubled the price of gas from 1.5 years ago. I look forward to seeing what Stats Canada’s inflation numbers might look like this month, because many things are going up in price at the same time now. Our only saving grace is that the Canadian Dollar being so strong will slow down the assumed Interest Rate increases that would be used to combat inflation. In Ottawa we have seen Gasoline at $1.37 a liter, in Montreal it has gone over $1.50 a liter and even in Toronto prices are over $1.40 a liter. I note there are a lot more folks taking their bikes to work and taking the bus these days. Is anybody looking at Electric Bicycles? Another interesting commuting idea.

With spring comes flooding around Ottawa, but also across the country in Quebec and in Manitoba. The army is now helping out where it can, and we send our best wishes and hopes of a quick cresting to those folks dealing with rising flood waters.

More stories of the Jack Layton Daycare and their first unsure steps as the official opposition. It should make for a very interesting parliament, which is all I can ask for as a financial/political pundit. No word on any new exciting tax breaks from our new Harper Majority Government, but there is hope, if the economy keeps heating up.

An eclectic set of articles from me this week:

I actually do enjoy all comments (even the ones that question my sanity), and will try to respond to most comments, so please feel free to comment away.

Other Financial Bloggers were a little more insightful about a few other topics this week, and certainly nothing to sneeze at:

Carnivals this Week

No new carnivals this week, but hopefully fairly soon.

Remember my RSS feed is available too, for those who enjoy reading without looking at my crappy page lay out, and I have added an RSS Comment Feed as well.

Have alook at my micro-blog on Twitter, where you can see a whole plethora of good articles and pithy comments by me as well. Twitter feed where I re-tweet many great articles by some of my featured writers (and make the occasional odd or off colour commentary on life (in 140 characters or less)). I am also on Digg as Big Cajun Man, on reddit, Tumblr and other Social Media sites (look for the BigCajunMan userid) as well.

If you have social media accounts, don’t forget to vote for my posts (see the nifty dashboard on the side of each article, where you can cast your votes). As they say in Quebec, vote early and vote often!

This site is iPhone Friendly (and Android , iPod Touch and iPad Friendly), enjoy it on the go, in a readable format for the device. If you are reading with an iPhone or Android device, drop me a comment and tell me if this needs any improvements. This site is also in the Kindle US Blog list, if you are interested, not available in Canada yet (because no Blogs are available in Canada on a Kindle?!?).
