Random Thoughts

Friday, February 8th, 2008

A Friday appears again and another week slips through my fingers, but time has a way of running at it’s own speed no matter how much I wish it would slow down or speed up.

  • Stock Markets continue to drop, with many stocks including Nortel seeing 52 week lows, is this time to buy? Don’t ask me, I have no idea.
  • Take the Burn Rate test and find out if you are one of the more than 50% of Canadians who overspend? Me I spend stupidly, but I don’t know if I overspend stupidly.
  • Is there an election brewing? Who knows, but you know what question I’ll be asking about, Taxation reform for Single Income Families!
  • University enrollments are up, and there are many more women than men in our Universities, according to Stats Canada. Luckily I went to a school where the men outnumbered the women in the major faculties (in the 80’s at least).
  •  The Microsoft take over of Yahoo hit a few potholes with Google sticking it’s nose in this week, which might be a good thing after all. It’s a tech thing, so I read about it and chuckle a lot, since I can’t comprehend how a search engine and advertising is worth $45B but that is just me.
  • If you try to read this blog from your PDA, it should actually be readable, kind of, I have added a new piece of code that formats my postings and figures out if you are coming in using a PDA or Smart Phone. Try it out and tell me if it really works (works fine for my Treo).
  • Good post by Nancy Zimmerman about her Crisis of debt and what she did about it, well worth a read.
  • Larry McDonald wrote an interesting article for the Globe and Mail about stock screening tools, where he quotes Michael James about the tools he uses.
