2012 The Year That Was on Canajunfinances.com

Don’t worry my Random Thoughts will return next week as usual, but I did find a very useful end-of-year report program from JetPack which tells a lot about my site and what has happened over the past year.

If you wish to read the entire Canadian Personal Finance 2012 End of Year Blog Report , I have included a direct link to it here.

I will include excerpts from this report for your perusal

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform.

This blog was viewed about 120,000 times in 2012.

If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it. Somehow this comparison doesn’t do it for me, now if you were talking about a Metallica Concert or maybe the Rolling Stones, then I’d be impressed.

In 2012, there were 299 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 1,795 posts.

The busiest day of the year was July 4th with 1,357 views. The most popular post that day was What does the 4th of July Mean?.

This report only shows data since you connected Jetpack.

How did You find Me?

The top referring sites in 2012 were:

  1. twitter.com
  2. theglobeandmail.com
  3. www.michaeljamesonmoney.com
  4. thesimpledollar.com

Some visitors came searching, mostly for 4th of july pictures, blind refs, melt, ketchup bottle, and tomato sauce bottle.

That is a very weird set of words to find my site with, guess I better work on my Search Engine Optimization!

  1. Hey you had a great year mate!! Can’t complain. Hoping your 2013 is even better! I had ketchup as a popular search term on my site as well with a comparison post I did of no-name vs name brands lol.. Big business I guess. Mr.CBB

  2. Another phrase I wish I’d never hear again is “can you fax that to me?” The last time I was asked that by a government employee, she seemed genuinely surprised when I asked if I could email a scan to her.

    1. Speaking as a Gov’t Employee who is forced to print out a form, fill it in by hand, scan it, and then e-mail and internal hard copy mail it so that someone can receive it, and then input the same data into an on line system, I have no idea what you mean?!?

  3. Speaking of 2012, here’s three phrases we won’t hear in 2013 (because we don’t hear them anymore at all):
    – don’t waste the film (taking too many pictures)
    – don’t forget to change the date on your cheques
    – are we lost? (how can you get lost with a GPS)

    1. The GPS thing, yes you CAN, if you download “new” maps and the system screws up and only gives you local maps. I drove past Kingston and the world disappeared!
