Can Money Buy Happiness

in Money, Video

For our video clip this weekend, the TED folks have an excellent presentation that asks the time honored question, “Can money buy happiness?”.

“Money can’t buy you happiness but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.”

Spike Milligan

Can happiness be bought? To find out, author Benjamin Wallace sampled the world’s most expensive products, including a bottle of 1947 Chateau Cheval Blanc, 8 ounces of Kobe beef and the fabled (notorious) Kopi Luwak coffee. His critique may surprise you.

Interesting thoughts! I believe it’s not possible to make a general statement on whether money makes people more or less happy.

Money comes with a whole set of new elements that may have good or bad impact on our happiness, and depending on how susceptible we are to every one of them, the conclusion will go one way or the other (i.e. different from person to person). I recently made an effort to provide a more comprehensive picture of what these ad- and disadvantages are.

    Thank you, Nick

Well, if anything – the rich definitely sleep better…
