Happy New Year 2022? Can we even say that yet? After 2021, maybe let’s just say, “We hope for a Happy New Year” and leave it at that.
Over the year we have seen wave upon wave of COVID. Now we are seeing Inflation coming on strong, and natural disasters monthly. All in all a wonderful year.
I have been unable to write much due to work and family issues. I have learned a great deal about Dementia and how the Quebec Legal system works, which has been, enlightening.
Some Numbers to End 2021
Inflation (year over year November 2021) | 4.7% â¬†ï¸ |
Bank of Canada Overnight Rate December 24 th | 0.25% |
Unemployment Rate (as of November 2021) | 6.0% |
Real GDP By Expenditure (Q3 2021)(quarterly change) | 1.3% |
The population of Canada (Est Q4 2021) | 38,436,447 |
CIBC current prime rate | 2.45% |
BMO current prime rate | 2.45% |
Scotiabank prime lending rate | 2.45% |
TD prime lending rate | 2.45% |
Tangerine prime lending rate | 2.45% |
Inflation is the scary one. So far, no reaction with Interest Rates, but they are promised some time in 2022.

Past Writings
I’ve written or rehashed a great deal since the last one of these:
- CPP and EI for 2022 yes, it is that time of year again. Time to think about what you are paying in the coming year for Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance. No they are not taxes.
- Merry Christmas 2021 ? Well it was actually quite nice for me, but it wasn’t for a lot of other folks, due to the Omicron variant. The restrictions will be coming soon.
- Use Your Calendar is a rewrite of something I wrote in 2009. The calendar is your financial friend. Yes you can get emails, but you might ignore them.
- Buying Lottery Tickets and Going to the Casino? another rewrite from 2009. Do you do these for fun? OK, but don’t ever dream these have anything to do with a Financial Plan.
- If You Hear Hoof Beats don’t start thinking Zebras, especially financially.
- Inflation 4.4% September 2021 which is going to start a lot of folks to think about Interest Rates. Can you afford higher interest rates?
- Dude, Where are My Bills? TD’s EasyLine went a little wonky for a while, and suddenly all my set up bills had disappeared? Luckily, they came back.
- Adieu TD Mutual Fund Account was an attempt to start moving my son’s RESP, watch for an update soon. No it is not done.
- Teach Your Kids to Be Frugal at Back to School Time . It is the time to start kids learning about these things.
- Inflation 4.1% August 2021 (Ouch) and it is only going to get worse.
- Allowances: Long-Term Update and I have been at this for almost 25 years, so I have learned a few things about it.
- Investing: And he’s an expert! remember the good old days of Garth Turner? He had some great bits of advice, that was for sure.
- What’s important? That is a big question when you are talking about money, but the answer is more straight forward than you think.
- Self Insured Company Disability Plans and how bad things can get. Nortel’s bankruptcy is something folks are forgetting about, but it destroyed a lot of lives.
- With Money Never is Better than Late? Sometimes it is better to pass on those “great opportunities”.
- 5 Financial Mistakes Rich Folks Make is a bit of click-bait. You know what rich folks have that you don’t? M-O-N-E-Y and the ability to make financial mistakes.
- How Much Can One Tooth Cost ? It can cost a whole lot of money. I ended up blowing my entire dental allowance for the year.
Social Media for 2022
Some of the biggest social media hits for me were:
Facebook was more interested in:
Still not sure Social Media does much, but I’ll keep plunking on it.
All Those Happy New Years
Yes, for many years I have wished you a Happy New Year

- I must have had an inkling about 2020, as I didn’t wish you a Happy New Year to start things. Hopefully with this post I have helped make the year better?
- In 2019 I was too practical with Tangible Financial New Years Resolutions but still worthwhile thinking about it, eh?

- 2016 Happy New Year, just didn’t happen, not sure why, must have been having a grinchy holiday?

- 2013 was a Happy New Year, a celebratory Sunday was the photo to start the year.

- Belated Happy and Prosperous New Year was how 2008 started, the economy was booming, employment was high, but there were hints of the systemic failure that was coming soon.

- 2006 I was still figuring out what this whole thing would be, but I showed signs of a ranting good time.
Yes, I really did start in 2005.
